Financial help from Motability

If you think you may not be able to afford the type of Motability vehicle that you need then don’t panic - the Motability Scheme may be able to offer financial help.

As a national charity Motability can offer help in the form of a grant to customers who may struggle to afford the vehicle they need. One way Motability can do this is through grants for Advance Payment for cars and wheelchair accessible vehicles. These grants can also be used for driving lessons and vehicle adaptations.

Your Motability requirements
The first step if you think you require financial assistance is to think about your requirements. Due to the limited nature of Motability funds this assistance will only go to those who are the most in need, and can only be used towards the most affordable solution available. You should think about your personal requirements, including what you need the car for and whether you need to have anyone else with you.

Once you have decided what sort of solution you need then we can help. Speak to one of our JCB Motability experts, who can guide you through the different Motability vehicles and prices and help you find the most affordable solution. They can also advise you on other options, such as a lease extension if you already have a Motability car, or arranging a driving assessment to confirm your needs.

If you receive War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement and have a Motability car then, based on your medical records, you may also be able to receive assistance from Veterans UK - although this doesn’t stop you applying for a Motability grant, if you need a Motability solution which costs more than the support they offer you.

What is Motability financial assistance used for?
Motability assistance can be used to help towards a number of different options in order to make your life easier. These include Advance Payments, in the form of a one-off payment on a standard production car, or money towards adaptations for vehicles. These may be things like swivel seats or wheelchair hoists. If you require more basic adaptations, such as pedal modifications or steering wheel balls, these are free of charge, thanks to the Motability Managed Adaptations
Programme (MMAP).

If you require a Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle then these cases can sometimes take a little longer, and may mean you have to have a mobility assessment to make sure that all of your needs are going to be met. Take a look at our Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle page for more information about what these vehicles can offer.

New Vehicle Payment

You can now use your New Vehicle Payment to help towards the cost of your Advance Payment. This is instead of getting the New Vehicle Payment a few weeks after you've picked up your new vehicle and already paid your Advance Payment. We hope that giving you this option will make it easier for you to order your next vehicle on the Scheme.
